Gone are the days that we had to purchase a book before traveling abroad, or at least call an aunt who was in Berlin 20 years ago and get her recommendation for a restaurant that has already been closed – those days are gone! Today, tourism applications rule our smartphone’s screen.
Trekkingin, for example, is a navigation app for backpackers based on sharing information from other backpackers. The app allows backpackers to download a navigation map to their mobile phone which is regularly updated by other backpackers who have taken the same route. This provides backpackers with vital information about their route in real time.
Before leaving for a trip, the backpacker is asked to download the map he wants to the mobile, using the GPS of the phone, the app identifies the location of the backpacker and accordingly provides information about the route itself, difficulty level, distance and more.
Restaurants, routes and even flights; Julio app got us used to getting offers for cheap flights at night and flying the next morning.
If you prefer to plan your trip well in advance, you also have an application for that: FairFly – which allows the user to enter the details of a flight and it locates the same seat on the same flight, but for less money.
And when you get off the plane you have great advices from well-established and proven applications, such as TripAdvisor that will help you choose routes and attractions. But, You can also learn from the social network travel2gether – where visitors recommend or warn about dangers for travelers, or even bad restaurants.
What else can you download to a smartphone before you go traveling? Maps of course, – those of Google or of Sygic, which you can navigate without Internet connection, Moovit to find public transportation and of course Instagram – so someone would see and envy your wonderful trip. However, most importantly – do not forget to take a phone charger.
